Children and sexuality in the digital age.

Talking to children reveals that they are getting exposed to inappropriate content at a younger age each year. The driving factors are curiosity, easy access, media, boredom and peer influence.
I admittedly dreaded having the s@x conversation with my children and when they asked me questions about it while in primary school I almost died.
In this day and age of easily accessible porn, the dark web, pedophile rings, loud and mixed sexual images on all media, open and new forms of sexuality that we did not see in our time, we need to be able to educate ourselves and control the narrative in our children’s lives.
Whilst they have a right to accessing tech and privacy, they also have a right to parental care and guidance.
I’ve now come to terms with the fact that I cannot keep running away from this topic no matter how far or how fast I go. The 21st century learner’s brain is wired differently and it’s always full of curiosity.
The internet presents different versions of information which is easily at our children’s disposal with just one click. Be sure that you get the skills to help your “babies” navigate and make sense of what they see online.
Our greatest gift to our children is to guard their vulnerable hearts, to teach them the right values and to give them the assurance that they can always come to us in times of fear, doubt or trouble.
